Disappointment

Just a quick blog here. I just finished reading Lament and I have to say I was rather disappointed in it. I can't really put my finger on what I didn't enjoy about this one when I thoroughly enjoyed reading Mainstream and Airport. Perhaps it lacked a certain energy and flair that the other two pieces had. I was just wondering if anyone else felt the same?

Thanks for that comment, Claire. It's true it got mixed reviews and when you watch the video you may still not make head nor tail of the performance but it seemed to me, and still does, one of their finest and most politically/ethically profound pieces.

I'd suggest this is a classic case of what performance adds. Bear in mind that the show is bookended by the two things you don't have in the script: the video extracts at the front and the long sequence of mourning/lamentation at the end. It's also - and this is probably crucial - a working script for the company, never designed to be legible by anyone else, so in a sense we're intruders in it.
